ℹ️ VA Rounding Rule: The VA rounds your training rate to the nearest 10% when calculating MHA. For example, 9 credits (75%) rounds up to 80% MHA, and you must be above 50% to receive any MHA.
How It Works: 3-Step Strategy
Enroll in VA-Approved Apprenticeship Program
Choose a program like Rapid Ascent, DOL Registered Apprenticeship, or similar. These programs provide Related Technical Instruction (RTI) as community college credits.
"I used Rapid Ascent and I wouldn't be where I am today without it." - Kevin D., Cyber Wingman Founder
Add 1 In-Person or Hybrid Class (3-4 Credits)
Coordinate with your apprenticeship's partner school or a local community college. The class should:
- Count toward a degree program (Associates or Bachelor's)
- Be VA-approved for in-person or hybrid instruction
- Sync enrollment dates with your apprenticeship term
- Provide 3-4 semester hours to reach 12+ total credits
Rapid Ascent partners with CityU of Seattle. You'd enroll in 1 in-person or hybrid class at CityU (3 credits) while doing Rapid Ascent training (10 credits) = 13 total credits = 100% MHA
Coordinate with VA School Certifying Officials
Work with the VA certifying officials at BOTH institutions to ensure:
- Both programs are certified to the VA at the same time
- Enrollment dates overlap (start/end dates align)
- Total credit hours add up to 12+ for the term
- MHA is calculated at 100% training rate
Both the apprenticeship program AND the partner school must agree to this arrangement. Communication between all parties (you, apprenticeship, school, VA) is critical for success.
